Formed in 2024, Lockin' Ringers is a young Canadian barbershop quartet dedicated to the art of four-part a cappella harmony. Rooted in the tradition of the Cloverdale Chordsmen and the Young Singers in Harmony program, these four singers came together with a shared passion for the timeless sound of barbershop — and haven't stopped ringing ever since.
The Style
What is Barbershop?
Barbershop harmony is a style of a cappella music characterised by four-part chords that ring in perfect tune — a phenomenon singers call the "overtone" or "fifth voice." No instruments, no backing tracks. Just four voices locking together to create a sound bigger than the sum of its parts.
The four parts — Tenor, Lead, Baritone, and Bass — each carry a distinct role. The Lead carries the melody, the Bass anchors the chord from below, the Tenor soars above, and the Baritone fills in the harmony that makes the whole chord ring. When all four lock in together, the result is unmistakable.
Originating in the barbershops of 19th-century America, the style has grown into a worldwide competitive art form, with quartets and choruses performing at festivals and competitions across the globe.
Tenor
